  1. WELCOME TO THE PAGESTREAM 3.3a Patch!

  4. This is a freely distributable patch from PageStream3.3 to PageStream3.3a.
  5.  
  6. TO USE THIS PATCH:
  7.  
  8. 1. This update requires disk 1 of your original PageStream3 disk set. It
  9. will not be modified by the update.
  10.  
  11. 2. You must have sufficient free hard drive space to use this patch. 4MB
  12. of free space is recommended.
  13.  
  14. 3. Download both files and decompress them to the same directory before
  15. installing.

  18. USING THIS PATCH
  19.  
  20. IF YOU HAVE 5MB OR MORE OF FREE RAM, you can decompress the archives to
  21. RAM and not worry about memory limitations.
  22.  
  23. IF YOU HAVE 4MB OF FREE RAM, you can decompress the archives to RAM, but
  24. you must delete the archives from RAM before running the patch. (Copy
  25. them somewhere safe in case you need them again!)
  26.  
  27. IF YOU HAVE LESS THAN 4MB OF FREE RAM, you must decompress the archives
  28. to a hard drive directory because you'll need all your RAM for the patch.
  29.  
  30. A drawer called "3.3a" will be created when you decompress the
  31. archive. Double click on the Install-3.3a icon in this drawer to begin.

  34. YOU SHOULD KEEP A COPY OF THE PATCH FILES UNTIL AFTER YOU HAVE
  35. SUCCESSFULLY INSTALLED THIS UPDATE IN CASE YOU NEED TO RUN IT AGAIN!

  37. If you delete them after decompressing them, and something goes wrong
  38. during patching, you will have to download them again! If you have
  39. adequate hard drive space, simply select the PageStream3 directory and
  40. choose Copy from the Workbench's Icon menu to make a complete duplicate
  41. of your PageStream3 directory. If you have a problem with the patch, you
  42. will have a backup to restore.

  45. LOW MEMORY NOTES
  46.  
  47. If you do not have enough memory to install this patch (the patch utility
  48. will fail if there is not enough free memory), you can conserve memory by
  49. decompressing the patch archives to your hard drive instead of to RAM:.
  50. If the patch fails due to low memory, you will not be able to use
  51. PageStream3 until you have successfully installed the patch because you
  52. will then have a mixture of new and old files. If you need to run the
  53. patch manually, decompress the PGSpatch.LHA archive. Use the spatch
  54. utility from this archive. The command syntax is:

  56. spatch -oPageStream3:PageStreamNew -pPageStream.pch PageStream3:PageStream3
  57.  
  58. The first parameter is the new version, the second parameter is the
  59. patch file name (include the path if required), and the third
  60. parameter is the currently installed version of PageStream3. Delete
  61. the old PageStream3:PageStream3 file when you're done and then rename the
  62. new version to the normal name (ie, PageStreamNew to PageStream3).

  64. If you have previously compressed the PageStream3 or BME program files
  65. with something such as PowerPacker, you will probably not be able to use
  66. this patch, even if you decompress them.
